The New Era of Business Software and Reporting

When you hear the terms “business software” and “reporting,” binders full of charts, spreadsheets, and footnotes could come to your mind. Perhaps conference rooms filled with executives working through slides. What’s missing in these images is the potential to generate value for businesses.
This is changing due to a handful of digital technologies that are reshaping the future of reporting. Machine learning and cognitive technology will take over the heavy lifting of gathering information, creating reports and then distributing them. This frees human workers to do more exciting work.
Utilization-based pricing is a different way to allow teams to make use of the current data quicker and more effectively. By decreasing the cost of accessing data the model makes it easier for businesses to link value to spend, enabling them to quickly increase usage and grow their efforts.
Software companies must rethink their underlying principles of creating distribution, selling, and charging for their products if they wish to succeed in the Age of Connected Work. The winners in this new era will evolve what is meant by “product-led” in the most literal sense of the term; they’ll use their products as engines for acquiring customers retention, expansion, and acquisition. This will require a fresh strategy-driven approach and a willingness to expand “as-a service” offerings beyond membership fees. It will also require incorporating PLG into the way they design and distribute their products. To remain competitive, companies will have to build an integrated technology ecosystem that offers the strategies, stewardship and governance necessary to make data an asset.
